I bought Lucky in 1977 and played
Ease Down Line over and over and over again. I have to admit, I had
no idea until I looked for Lucky on cd that you were Mel Torme's son.
Thanks for Lucky, it is a wonderful album. |

I've tried twice today, to NOT send
you a note. However, my gratitude got the best of me. I feel
that I must thank you for inspiring me to 'get out' yesterday
and attend a celebration of the life of a respected Portland man who
recently died. Going to that event and seeing so many old friends reminded
me of all the good fortune I've had........One of them was the joy
of presenting you at 'The Old Church' on 12/4/98.
It was 'a big deal' that this man agreed to MC for me, 'cause you
are SO WHITE. His name is Dick Bogle. Being black he TOTALLY enjoyed
promoting all the many great black players. (He was in poitics, radio, police
force, etc. etc.) However, for me...and for YOU he conceded and introduced
you. He didn't do a great job of it ...but he DID it ! As I related that
story to friends yesterday they laughed...and remembered you and your
preformance that night with, yet another
RAVE REVIEW ! It took all of that, to get me out from 'under my
rock'! I have a new resolution...
To become more active in the jazz community again! That WAS MY
LIFE! Who knows,I might even make it to one of your Vegas gigs ! Thanks
Steve ! |

Your dad was a good friend of our
family in Chicago. He hung out with my Cousin, Stanley Goodman quite
a lot when they were in high school. It's nice to see his face in yours,
Steve, and it's nice to see you have your own singing style. I wish
you only the best. Sincerely, Toby Padgett, Oregon, formerly of Chicago's

Dear Steve,
Thank-you fro your performance at the Vintage in the Valley fete on
March 20th. I often listen to you on 'The Avenue' yet had never heard
you sing 'LIVE". It was great! What a generous gift to the Boys

I saw you on March 3 and 4 at the
McCallum. It's been a long time since I've been so impressed with a
performer that I've actually sprung for the CD, but I did buy yours,
and I'm so glad! I listen to it every time I'm in my car. I've already
bought tickets to your show at the Suncoast in Las Vegas, and am very
excited to be able to see and hear you again -- you're the best! |

Steve,
Saw your performance last night at the McCulluum Theatre.
WOW! What a thrill . . . a fabulous original performance!
Not too familiar with jazz but I'm now a fan, just thoroughly
enjoyable. Such talent! Loved every minute and didn't want it to
end!
Thanks for the intro to jazz, love it!

Hi again Steve---
I'm listening to your cd "So Far" as I'm writing this quick
thank you note. (And "So Far" I'm enjoying it immensly --
Town Without Pity- WOW an old Gene Pitney hit that you really hit dead
center!!!)
We had the wonderful privedge and pleasure to attend your Jan. 16,
2010 concert in Great Falls, MT @ The Mansfield Theatre.
I'm must admit, my only exposure to your music has been thru your
radio show on a local station & that is what inspired us to attend.
Luckily, we were able to secure seating center stage in 2nd row so
we were treated to a real up close & personal experience.
Your show was just extraordinary and being that this was your very
1st performance with a symphony (The Great Falls Symphony under the
direction of Gordon Johnson) with all the arrangements provided by
yourself, we were very impressed. (In our minds) consider the evening
a huge success. We also have a feeling you were very happy with this
first time endeavor as well you should be.
Georgia enjoyed the very unique "Beatles Medley" some selections
which are rarely heard however, much appreciated.
Again, thanks so much for a wonderful evening of first class entertainment.
Mel has to be soooo proud!!!!
Bernie & Georgia Vogel
p.s.
I've just pulled out your fathers lp recording "Mel Torme @ The
Crescendo". I see there is another fine Mercer-Arlen composition
on this record entitled "One For My Baby (And One More For The
Road). Can't wait to hear it. |

Steve,You're a TRUE American musical
Artist!
From my early beginings of my stand up comedy career at
the Friar's Club in Beverly Hills, put me on a path of meeting
and working with Show Business legends! Milton Berle, Bob Hope,
Richard Pryor, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and a very, very, young
Steve March Torme!!!
Love the scrapbook photos and your witty
captions! They take us on a wonderful journey of your life and
musical career so far! I guess part of why I was so impressed
with you aside from your talent is that I was around 17, 18 years
old when we worked together and you weren't much older than that, all
of the production staff and show business giants we worked with...were
grown adults and here we were these 2 young guys doing what we
wanted to do with our lives. Me, warm up the audience and get them
going with some laughs and then you would swing people into an upbeat
jam or swoon them with your classic singing style.
Steve, keep knockin' out Steve those audiences!
I look forward getting
the chance to work together again and will be in touch if I'm coming
to see at any of your road performances.
Your warm up comic pal always,
Jaime Monroy |

My name is Melissa and last night
(Saturday November 21) I had the oppertunity to watch your performance
at the theatre owned by Desi Arnaz Jr. and his wife Miss Amy in Boulder
City, Nevada.
To say I extremely enjoyed your performance would be an understatement.
Your flare and passion for music was conveyed with each note you sang.
I am an avid music lover and make it my life's mission to take in as
much as possible about everything and anything pertaining to this wonderful
art form.
I hang on every note when I have the chance to see performers/performances
whom I greatly and deeply admire, and without exception this includes
you, from the bottom of my heart....
Thank you for signing my C.D. Take care, stay safe on the road, and
God Bless. *HUGS* Melissa |

Thanks for the link to your site
- it is stunning! In looking at all the photos and accomplishments,
I'm almost embarrassed that I didn't know more about you to begin
with, as I've been a fan of Mel's work since forever. I'm glad to see
that you have inherited so much from him, while still crafting and
tapping into your own musical uniquenes. You come from excellent stock!
I
especially enjoyed the photo taken here in Dallas at the JFK
assination spot- it was like I was looking out my car window there,
as I've driven through that area millions of times.
Here's hoping that one day our paths might cross, as I would welcome
the opportunity to work with someone as hip as you!

My wife Judy and I went to your concert
on November 6th. We talked 6 friends of ours into coming along. I was
the grey haired guy in the front row to your left with a dark sweater
and light coat. I Purchased your last CD at Jefferson Park in Menasha,
when you did your concert there.
We all agreed, this was not one of the best, but THE best live concert
we all had ever seen, and we've seen many. My buddy next to me, said
he was amazed at the energy you had, and how down to earth you are.
I told him, now you know why we asked you to come along--he thanked
me.
We hope to see a lot more of you in concert in the coming years. You
put a smile on everyones face.
Thanks from all of us, and welcome to Appleton--my home town.
By the way, our new snowblower is running perfect. You told me the
last time you E-mailed me, that you hoped it would do the job.
Thanks again

Seeing your website with the pictures of you and your family and reading
about all the things you've done and are doing filled me with nostalgia
and, I must admit, a bit of envy. You have lived your life doing what
you loved, and it looks to me as though it's been a pretty wonderful
life.
I'm glad to see you are still singing and writing songs; the only
thing that surprised me is that you wound up in the midwest! That is
the reverse of the usual arc, don't you think?
Anyway, I remember fondly the time of my life when I counted you among
my best friends and anything seemed possible. I wish you all the best
in all you do.

Dear Mr. March:
A 150 years ago I wrote you a fan letter for your talent that
I only saw on Name that Tune. You not only sent me your picture
but keep up a very very kind correspondence with me...which
helped give me great self confidence. I was a average kid with
nothing special about her, but your letters always made me
feel like I was special and during those years when you feel
like crap about yourself, you helped a average young woman
in New Braunfels Texas know that she could be special and that
there was a whole world out there. I know I was just another
fan, but I had to tell you what those letters meant to me and
I have kept everyone. I have looked for you many times through
out the years never to find you...I guess because I did not
know about the "Torme" last name...on a fluke I looked
you up again tonight and the minute I saw your picture I knew
it was you...you have not aged at all. I can't wait to get
your CD's and hear your wonderful voice again. Thank you for
your tale!
nt and your kindness. Mysti Brueggemann Distance |

Steve,
It is so great to see that you are still singin' and swingin'.
It's been 20 years since we've seen each other and I have thought
of you often. I just decided to google you because my ex-husband,
trumpet player, you also met when we were visiting L.A. years ago,
said he had seen posters of you billed as Steve March Torme'in some
of the venues he had played at. You still look fabulous and sound
great too. I miss those old Marjans days. So glad to hear about the
family and the midwest move. I am now in Sin City..Las Vegas. I would
love to hear from you....Lots of love to you and your family, Bonnie

Hey, Steve,
It's good to hear you sing here. I'll check out youtube. Please

stolen as they stored between moves, but oddly, I found I still have

Yesterday I cancelled a flight from LA to London.
Today I see you're gonna be in SOHO later this month ! Shoot,

I've followed you since 1976, you rascal. I still recall every note
from that 33 album, the one with a kitty and a keyboard on the
kover. (sic) I have a whole Gang of friends in London,
and I will advertise YOU and I hope they go hear you. Didja know
? Practically across DEAN Street,
....Tottenham Court Road.....underneath the St Giles Hotel, on
Russell, there's a terrific POOL at the Central YMCA, just
in case you're interested. I WISH I were there, Steve,
but alas. Not this time. Now I'm gonna e-mail Everyone I Know in London
and send as an attachment your version of "Town Without Pity" or "Neverland".
No royalties for you, dommage. BUT they will want to show up in Soho

Hi Steve...when I heard your name
on the radio, I thought...hmmm, I wonder if he's related to Mel Torme;
after all, how many people have that last name! Your dad used to live
in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago. So did I. And even tho
I never met him, I felt like I knew him because he lived in my neighborhood!
Silly, I know, but wanted to just share the thought with you. He was
so talented and handsome...looks like you are a taller, thinner version
of him and just as talented!...Warmly, Beverly |

My wife and I saw you at the
Fox Cities Jazz Fest in Menasha, Wisconsin this summer, and I
told you how great you are and that I loved to listen to your
dad sing. I bought your CD "So Far", which you signed,
and thought I'd drop you a line and express how great it is.
When we're having a rough day, I put the CD in and sit back to
listen. It's so relaxing. Your bright personality and beautiful
voice make my day. Will you ever be returning to this area? My
wife isn't as big a follower of jazz as I am, but she absolutely
loved your show. If you can win her over, It shows just how great
you are. Sincerely

Thank you for making Stambaugh
Auditorium the most comfortable place in Youngstown this Sunday
evening. You don't just sing a song, you share a song with the
audience. You conquered an audience that knew your father's legacy
but had no idea what to expect from you. There are hints of your
dad in your performance, but you are still your own man. Much like
Mel Torme, your forte is that you are a very talented live performer.
You have so much to offer with the great stories and the way you
communicate with the audience, you're not just a pop singer, you
are an entertainer. I was the MC for this Monday
Musical Club show and I agree with everyone that met you, you
are a true gentleman. Now that people know you in Youngstown,
I hope you will return with your 10 piece band and do a little
tap dancing. May you have continued success and take good care
of your family. |

I have been a genealogist for some time and can say with some certainty
that we are related. My grandmothers maiden name was Gertrude
Tockstein and was fron Red Bud, Illinois. I know your mom Florence

Illinois. I thought about you, 1) because your mother was famous
and in showbiz and 2) i just moved out to LA to take a temporary
technology job. Would love to provide you with more details if you

Being a child of the 60's and
70's, I was introduced to the music of your father, and the rich
sounds of the jazz era by my mother and my uncle. I learned to
savor the sounds of Ella, Frank, Nat and of course Mel Torme, who
along with Ella Fitzgerald introduced me to the rich sounds of
scat. I'm sorry to say that I wasn't aware of you or your singing
career, until I searched a fan site for Indian teen star Sajid
Khan. I am now enjoying your music thanks to youtube videos. I
would love to see your live show, and I'm wondering if you will
be coming to Atlanta in the near future. Thanks to the
internet and to the Sajid Khan web site I've discovered your
music. Josephine |

Hello Steve, I
worked with your father one Saturday afternoon at Universal Recording
Corp. in Chicago(no longer exists)when I was a staff engineer
there years ago. Recently I attended a concert at
Ruth Eckerd Hall here in Clearwater, FL that featured Lynda Carter,
opened by John Byner. I believe you would pack the house there
and a performance by you and Lynda would need to be at a larger
venue. You and she have that great jazz feel and there could
be some great musical interaction. Just a few suggestions. Cheers!

This is a message from your
past. Just looked up your website ( don't ask why -- just got
to thinking about the "old" days and wondered how some
of the Dog and Pony Gang were doing.) Glad to see that you are
doing so well -- enjoyed your You Tube clip. Now we will have
to look for your cd's. We were also happy to hear that you got
married and have a family.
Mary and I have been married for 26 years and have a 21 year old
son. We still live in Saratoga -- where we were married. Still have your
picture from that day, as well as the Dog and Pony team picture - 1979.
Do you ever perform in the bay area?? Would love to hear from you.
P.S. Are you still playing shortstop?
Congratulations! Eppo and Mary |

Just a very random but cute
tidbit about your step-father, Hal March. In 1964, I was 1-1/2
years old and my brother, Mark, was a newborn. We lived in Lompac,
California. Though I have little detail, the fact is that my
mother picked up a left my birth-father (not very common in that
era) and headed back to Seattle with both of us on the plane!
Hal's seat was in our section and he was absolutely wonderful.
My mother, Ines, said that Hal held me, while she tended to my
little brother. She was, of course, awestruck at first, but truly
appreciated the help. She remembered his appearances on the I
LOVE LUCY show, etc. So... I wanted you to know that I consider
this my first brush with real fame. Blessings to you and yours. |

Heard you at Community

Just a note to let

Mel and thought he was an incredible talent and a wonderful guy. Dad
played with the Dorsey's, etc and still has a band today tho he's been
retired for quite some time. Anyway, when he heard of you, he was excited
to check you out, and of course thought you were pretty darned terrific...no
surprise. :) Happy holidays to you |

From the first CD
to now, you're amazing. Found your website and went through the
news, and am so happy for your success. I was reading the comments
and saw the one from a guy named Bob who said he got/stole a copy
of Lucky in 1978. Now Steve, I'm not accusing anyone you realize,
but I used to have a copy of "Lucky", and I used to have
a roommate named Bob. Hmmm..I wonder where my copy of Lucky went?
Thank God you sent me your second CD a few years ago, when you
were interviewed on KTRS in St. Louis. Can't wait to purchase your
DVD. |

We saw you last nite
at centre east in skokie, il and enjoyed the performance very
much. we also had seen your dad along with helen reddy about
20 yrs ago at the old centre east. i remember from 55 or 60 yrs ago
when your dad was the velvet fog and used to perform live at the chicago
theater. some yahoos in the audience threw lightbulbs on the stage.
i figure they were just some jealous guys from his old neighborhood.
they could not have been displeased with his talent. no one carries
lightbulbs into a theater without prior intent. you have special
talent just like your dad did. |

My husband and sister
and I saw you last nite at the Centre East in Skokie, Illinois.
We were so impressed with your vocalization and professionalism
and just wish the house had been filled to the rafters. They
don't know what they missed. The only thing that could have made
it better would have been to see you behind a live orchestra.
I understand, from your Web site, you are working on such a concert.
GREAT. Continue success - you are a talent to be reckoned with....
Please come back to Skokie. |

Hi Steve,
I just discovered your music and have been a big fan of your dad
and of your younger brother James for some time now. I was able to
see James perform in Thousand Oakes and at Anthology in San Diego
- two great shows! I really like your sound too and hope to catch
one of your shows soon too! Wow - what a family!
:-) Best wishes for much continued success!

Although many of Steve's fans
may not be aware, he possesses the toughest pitch to hit in the
sport of fastpitch softball. In 1989, The sports pages of the Jerusalem
Post newspaper reported that Maccabi USA pitching star Steve March
Torme's infamous "In-Out Twizzie" pitch would baffle opponents at
The 13th World Maccabiah Games softball tournament in Israel. The sportswriter
proved prophetic as Steve helped team USA "March" to it's
2nd consecutive Gold Medal victory over Maccabi Canada, at the Kibbutz
Gezer Softball Stadium. I know this because I was there as Steve's
teammate, and back-up pitcher. If I could have only mastered the Twizzie
myself...I wouldn't have had to have a back-up career in pro Wrestling
as "The Kosher Krusher"! |

While you were on Name That Tune, I wrote
you a letter. I was 15 years old and had the biggest crush on
you. To my surprise, you wrote me back. In fact, we corresponded
several times over that year. Recently, while going through some
boxes, I found two of the letters you sent me. It took me back
to those difficult years when I was a lost, insecure, plain and
sometimes depressed teenager. Your letters were bright spots
for me in that difficult time. You took time out of your busy
schedule to write me. Your letters were caring, sincere and they
made me feel special. That was almost 30 years ago and I have
often wondered what you were doing and how you were. It wasn't
hard to find you. It is great to see that you are very successful.
I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to write me. I'm
sure it played some small part in creating the happy and confident
person I've become.<BR>Try
to get down to Florida sometime - I'd love to see you perform!
Thanks again! Best wishes.!

I don’t think Steve or anybody else would claim he’s
‘better’ than his dad, but there’s no doubt that he honors his
famous gene pool while taking it in new directions—and sometimes
to new heights. More unexpected is the fact that he’s such a nice
guy. Makes you wonder how a person who grew up among celebrities
in a privileged environment turned out that way. My guess is that
his only parent without a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame must
have been one very gracious lady. Hope the symphony tour works
out. Should be great. |

Dear
Mr Torme, My
name is Richard Freeman and I am 45 years old. When I was 16
my dad got me a job with Steve Allen. I worked all his gigs and
was a office hand for his personal and public affairs. Working
for him allowed me to hear his radio show and see his TV show,
but the best thing that came from working with him was an apreication
for jazz. Your
album "Lucky" was played in the office all day, every day
for many weeks. Steve Allen loved it and so did I. Could
you see as to how I could recapture those days and see if you
could locate another copy of "Lucky" for me? The
original was on a real to real tape that is now long gone.
Thank You so much, This
was the best jazz album I had ever heard. Sincerely,
Richard Freeman |

Hi Steve! I just finished
watching/listening to your wonderful "Tormé Sings Tormé" DVDs. Although
not quite as fabulous as your live performances, it's great to
have the show in my living room -- especially in between your trips
to southern California. I'm thrilled you will be back here in January!
I've already got tickets for two shows and hopefully will see you
at all four of them!
I hope you, Angela, Ruby and Sunny are all well. You've been away from So. Cal. too long, and I'm looking forward to seeing your show again in January!
Sincerely,
Patti Jacobs

Heard you Oct 4th at Quinnipiac University with the trio, including the bass player known all over this area, Jeff Fuller. The duet with your voice and his bass was fantastic. I must admit I didn't know of you until the concert. Hopefully your 2007 tour will bring you back to the Connecticut area. |

I first heard the soothing
and magic voice of Steve back in 1976. He just keeps getting better,
and HIS comment is, "I hope so". Emotional warmth with immaculate musical
taste, reliably professional after all these years, and somehow
YOUTH full, how does he do that ? ? ? |

I just purchased "Torme sings Torme" because your Dad was as much of an influence on our generation's music, if not more so, than Frank Sinatra. I first met your Dad when he was 13years old. He was soloist and drummer for a band led by Fritzi(Frederick)Freund. This was in Chicago around 1939 or 1940. I was dating Fritzi and sat in on a band rehearsal. I remember clearly what he sang that night "I Cried for You" Your
Dad and I went to same high school)Hyde Park High), but I am a
few years older. I wrote a e-mail note to the editors of TIME when
they wrote of your father. |

Steve,
Looking forward to hearing you at the Grand 1894 Opera House in
January. I have a jazz trio, and we play an annual concert at
the Opera House every year, plus playing a lot of "on stage" events there
as well. You are in for a treat. It is an absolutely spectacular venue.
The last time I saw your father perform, it was at the Grand. Maureen
Patton, who runs the Grand, is a good friend. You will enjoy her very
much. I hope we will be able to meet, but if not, I am sure that your
Grand experience will be just that. Grand!
Best regards,
Rob |

Hello Steve I'm so glad
that I ran into this site! Talk about a blast from the past, I
played bass on one of your first records. I was at that time recording,
writing, and performing with the late and still great Minnie Riperton
when the chance to record for you came along. My God how time flows
by so silently. I do recall you being very easy to work with and
fun. I really would love to get my hands on those tracks my man!
I don't recall the title of that work so can you have some of your
people "hook a bratha up".
I need to hear it agin. I'm so proud many people have found out
what I already knew way back then, you are a national treasure.
For real , Ed Brown |

When your dad used to perform on Miami Beach, I was a film editor and children's personality at the time at then WCKT/NBC 7 in Miami. One of your dad's passions was watching old war movies. He would come to the TV station and pick out the movies from our MGM library of movies. Then in the evening I would go watch his show (after having lugged a heavy projector and film up to his hotel room) and then around midnight when he had finished performing, would sit up with him until 3 or 4 in the morning watching the movies.
He also loved Lifesavers. He was always kind, so talented, and humble, very dedicated.
Great heritage and I know he would be so proud of you today.

Hello to Steve, I just wanted to tell you I just bought all three of your cds on Amazon. I was in the Shades of Sound. I am the guy in the center nealing. I was a fan of Steve's then and I still am. Steve, You forgot to put that picture was Larry Parker, your super lead guitar player....Just kidding.... I know you have a genious understanding of music, rhythm and you are funny..I can't wait for the cd's to arrive. Put me on a list of when and where you are performing. |

I tutored two of your distant Chicago cousins (the Ginsburg girls) for their Bat Mitzvah celebrations, back in the late 80's/early 90's. Their mother Sue (maiden name Leff) was very proud of her connection to your father. |
